Which position should Wayne Rooney play in?

Wayne Rooney, the multi talented and talismanic striker, a player many say is the “White Pele” has been instrumental and one of the architects of many successful campaigns for Manchester United. A dilemma always exists as to where the once youngest player to score a Premier league goal should be deployed.
I, one of many, have always been a firm advocate to deploy him in the hole, just behind the striker. Rooney is a player who has a passion, a fire to always win. And this passion can be properly utilised by involving him more in the game. By sitting deep he can unleash a quick counter by releasing the striker or either wingers and also spray passes around the park. Rooney’s passing ability I believe, is only rivalled by that of the legendary Paul Scholes in the current United setup.
The addition of the dangerman, Robin van Persie to an already potent attack comprising Danny Welbeck and Javier Hernandez furthers my conviction for Rooney to play as a provider and also a striker. His superb positional sense and knack for killer passes assisting them to add to their tally of goals.
As for all the dissidents out there saying Rooney is a striker and his ability to score goals will be curtailed, I point out to last season, when he was deployed in the role behind the striker and still managed to equal his personal best of 34 goals in a season.
Need I say more?
